We travelled to Joshua Tree over the holidays to see the latest art exhibition of  artist Brian Leatart at the Arttrap Gallery. Leatart works with composite photographs to create a surreal reality and atmosphere from contextual portraits to fantasy still lifes. One of his pieces was just acquired for the permanent collection of the Palm Springs Art Museum. Congrats to Brian on a standing room only turn-out in 29 degree weather. Advertisements

We visited Rain Room at LACMA and managed to control the rain and stay reasonably dry during the 30 minute environmental experience. We can only hope this is an artful precursor to El Nino – and a portent of rain to come. The kids inside the space loved running around and getting soaked, and the grown ups (me included) walked very slowly and deliberately to avoid torrential downpours. Communication Arts + Design, Inc, visited Salt Restaurant and Bar at the stunningly renovated Marina Del Rey Hotel, and admired the clean aesthetics and compelling contemporary art installations, including this underwater photo light box right outside the bar. The outdoor dockside patio offers one of the best vistas of the Marina in the area, with designer fire pits throughout. The menu at Salt is the handiwork of the noted chef Mark Gold.
